Starting with an update on Tales from Karatera, the second draft of A Matter of Faith is well underway, and Clanless is entering its final draft. There’s a couple of factors slowing down my progress on getting it ready for editing, the least of which being my impending trip to Japan, but it’s almost done. The plot beats of She-Devil have been laid out, and all I need to do now is write it, and I now have a working title for story number 6: The Falcon and the Kite. This one is going to explore the Black River region of Karatera, which has a strong Ancient Egypt aesthetic, though I’m still nailing down the finer points of the story.
So, going forward, there’s gonna be a couple of changes. Firstly, I’m going to be trying to be more consistent with my writing, devoting at least an hour each day to writing Tales from Karatera. I was doing this previously up to a point, but I fell out of the practice during an intense period of work, and didn’t really get back into it. Obviously that’ll wax and wane as my circumstances change, but I want to devote more time to this project than I currently am, else it’s going to take a million years before it’s complete.
The second thing is that once I get back from Japan, I’m going to dial back on the frequency of my blog posts. So from next month, I’ll be experimenting with posting every second Monday instead of every single Monday. The reason for this that I don’t feel like I have enough time with my current once-a-week model to write posts with the kind of depth that I want. I’m hoping that if I have a longer time frame to write, I’ll be able to hit that depth without sacrificing more free time than I have to. I’ll do a couple of posts to see if it helps me, and then if it does, then I’ll keep doing it. Otherwise, I’ll go back to the once-a-week model.
This doesn’t mean that I’m going to stop updating, though. Every Monday during this experiment, I’ll post an update on my socials about the progress of Tales from Karatera – what draft they’re in, what percentage of completion they’re at (roughly), and whether or not I have any blocking issues with certain stories. This’ll be on both Bluesky and Tumblr, though I expect to get more mileage out of the Bluesky posts.
Also, another reminder that I will be exploring Japan from the 14th to the 28th, so there won’t be any posts on the 18th or 25th. I’ll try to make a post on the 1st of October, but I can’t make any promises. I will be trying to keep to my “hour a day” of writing while I’m travelling, though I can’t really make any promises on that either.
That’s all for me this time! I’ll see you guys next week for the last update before I head off!
